Class references 10 - Simplicity in composition

Once again, it is worth taking a lesson from Mike Mignola when comes time to compose an image.

Sometimes the most simple compositions are the best.
How many colours in here ? very few... how many elements ? very few also.

Was the Antonov 040 a good idea ?

James Bland. Painting without gradients, but a really rich palette.

Interesting composition here. And those ring clouds...

Week 10 - Jack Leigh

Sorry I'm so late. I have a couple sketches ready, but I'm not sure which I want to take to a finish. Some input would be very appreciated.

Week 10 Rebecca

I apologize for the lateness, here is what I have so far.  I do have a fairly good idea of the direction I want to go in (plant experiment gone rogue), but I'm not sure how it will read and if I should make it look more interesting with plant matter, damage, or something else.

a bit late, sorry

I'm not too sure what I want in the room behind the glass yet but I know I'd like it to be some sort of human experiment that's being evaluated from the outside

Week 09 - examples from previous semesters

Here are a few examples of work from previous semesters.

Week 09 - set extension illustration notes.

Hello all,

I hope you all have managed to find interesting material for this week's illustration.
I highly recommend that you make a few preliminary sketches to develop your idea. The more you develop it conceptually before hand through a few sketches and research, the greater the chance that your illustration will be satisfying to you.  The more you know about, the light, the mood, the ambiance, the aesthetics, and your general intention, the easier it will be to construct your image. Basically, you are developing a plan that will make the actual illustrating-rendering phase more efficient as you will know where you are going. Hopefully, you choose a subject that you really like.

So for Sunday, try to post on the blog a few sketches (up to three) and a few reference images (mood, lighting, subject, materials,...)

I look forward to see your work.
